Cd racks are one of the many forms of storage racks that are available from the Internet or your local storage solutions store. The wonderful advantage with cd racks is that they can double as DVD racks if you find that you have a better use for your cd rack in this way. Cd racks come in a multitude of styles and colors and are made from many different types of materials. One of the more common designs of cd rack is the black wire rack. This is a more contemporary style and can accommodate anything from twenty cds to over one hundred cds. They can also be laid down horizontally on a surface or made to stand up vertically as a cd rack tower. This is often the preferred choice, as space is often at a premium particularly if you have your stereo in the living room along with you television and video. Having the option to reduce the space taken up by a cd rack is often very useful. As such, you will often find cd storage racks placed in the corner of a room or next to a stereo cabinet. A horizontal cd rack will often be placed within a stereo cabinet, again with the purpose of reclaiming space or to hide the rack within the cabinet to give a more tidy appearance to the living area.

Wood

Wood is another material that lends itself to cd racks. A wooden cd rack gives a far more traditional look and feel to a room and often blends in or complements other wooden furniture including television or stereo cabinets with pine and oak being the preferred wood. Wooden cd racks come in all shapes and sizes ranging from small ones that only carry twenty cds and can fit on a table, to six foot tall wall racks that are placed against a wall and can hold hundreds of cds or DVDs. Wooden racks generally come with small wooden shelves that sit on metal stubs that protrude from the sides of the rack. These can be removed and placed at different heights allowing the shelves of the rack to be adjusted for height. Other wooden cd racks have grooves cut into their sides that hold the cds. Either method for holding the cds works fine but the use of adjustable shelves allows the cd storage rack to be used for other purposes including a narrow bookcase.

Plastic

Yet another material that cd racks can be made from is plastic. These usually come with fixed cd shelving that has a small catch to hold the cds in place. This type of rack is usually relatively small and because of the nature of it’s plastic construction tends to be very light and portable. These are perfect for desktop use or even for keeping some cds in the kitchen or a small unit. Another advantage of this type of rack is that they are often stackable allowing several levels that again saves on space. When considering purchasing a cd rack, it is not always necessary to buy a rack that is custom built for cds. Often other types of clear storage boxes like simple clear plastic storage boxes will suffice if you have less than twenty or thirty cds and you need something to keep them in that also allows easy access. Even a shoebox will do if your budget is a little tight.

But assuming you are after the real thing there is also the wall mounted cd rack. This is bolted to a wall at a height that is convenient to the user and allows the floor space beneath the rack to be used for other purposes. An example of this may be to place seating or a coffee table or the stereo itself. The living room is not the only place where a cd dvd rack can be used as this is not the only room you will find a stereo system. Really anywhere where a stereo system can be found is a likely candidate for a cd rack. As such they can be used in bedrooms and offices as well. Similarly wooden and wire cd racks are not the only ones that can be found. There are also many unusual types of cd racks. One of these takes after the revolving cassette rack that came out in the seventies. This particular one sits on a flat surface and holds the cds in compartments around a central hub. The rack can then be turned around so that each cd can be seen. This type of rack tends to be a bit outdated though there are still some around. It’s interesting that many of the cd racks of today have their design based on cassette racks of past years with some of them fitting nicely into modern times whilst others are better left in the dim corners of the past. Regardless of what type of cd rack you intend to purchase, you can’t go past the internet for choice and price. This provides the perfect medium for comparing many different styles and making your shopping experience for cd racks an enjoyable one.
