Name Tags
71There are many uses for name tags that we often don't think about and yet these name tags are as important if not more important than those which are obvious. When thinking about where name tags are used, the obvious choices are social gatherings, employee name tags, id name tags and business name tags. These are obviously important due to a number of reasons. For instance id name tags are required by many employees as a form of identification allowing them to enter the company place of work and move from one office to another unhindered. Using retractable badge holders is perfect for this purpose. An id tag retractable badge holder allows the tag to be pulled away from the body without having to remove it. Employees may also use name tags when they attend a work conference. Party, reunion or Christmas name tags are useful when not all of the people present know each other. In this situation name tags provide an ice breaker.
Childrens Name Tags
Other name badges that people often don't think of includes school name tags. These are used in many different places to ensure that if an item that belongs to the child is lost, whoever finds it will quickly know who it belongs to and hopefully will return it in short order. Kids name tags also ensure that teaching staff know what belongs to whom in case different items get mixed up between the children. Although mainly found in preschool name tags are also found at the primary level of school as well, since the children are aged below twelve years of age at this point and still aren't necessarily old enough to stop their items from being lost. As a result you will find name tags on drink bottles, lunch boxes, jumpers and cardigans, raincoats, pencil cases, reading and writing books and for the littlies, even shoes. Usually clothing name tags are either sewn onto the clothing or someone with the skill can use embroidery to create embroidered name tags on their child's clothing. The advantage here is that other children will not be able to pull the tag off. This is always one of the problems with ties and a fairly common initiation into school, where the local bully will rip the tag off the back of the child's tie. Another way to avoid this with clothing is to use iron on name tags that also can't be pulled off. Usually blank self adhesive name tags where the child's name can be written are useful for labeling items that have a harder exterior like drink bottles or books. The main point to note here is that if the item has a possibility of getting wet, to use labels that have a plastic coating with a permanent felt marker pen to write the child's name. This guarantees the label will withstand getting wet without the ink running and the label deteriorating.
Pet Name Tags
Another common form includes dog name tags and cat name tags. People who aren't pet owners will often not realize the importance of this form of identification name tags, but for the owner of a pet, they are essential. Besides providing an adornment for the neck of the pet along with their collar and letting the world know their name as soon as someone meets them, they become an essential tool in recovering a lost pet. Most pets have metal name tags not unlike the dog collars that are typical of military name tags. Obviously this is where the name came from for the army name tags that hang around a soldiers neck. Usually the pet's tag has their owner's phone number or address engraved into the metal so that if the pet gets lost, a passing stranger that finds the pet will be able to contact their owner and return them.
Plant Name Tags
There are of coarse also plant name tags. This is one that many people forget. Yet a trip to the nursery will show row upon row of pot plants each with their little plastic name tags embedded in the soil. Again these are essential as a tool for identification and often the tag will have not only the name of the plant but also how best to grow them, where to grow them and the best conditions that will cause them to flourish. The tags often have the price written on them as well with permanent felt marker pen so that when they are watered, the ink doesn't run on the plastic.
Others
Clearly name tags are used for a number of purposes and come in a number of forms including plastic, sew on name tags, printable name tags, velcro, lanyards and even magnetic name tags. These come in two metallic pieces. The front piece has the person’s name on it and is placed on the outside of a tunic or shirt while the back piece is magnetic and is placed against the front piece with the tunic or shirt in between. The magnet maintains the position of the tag and unlike other name badges that use pins to attach them to the tunic, do not leave small holes in the tunic.

If you want free name tags the best option you have is to make your own name tags. Making name tags is easy to do as it only requires some adhesive printer labels and a felt pen. Alternatively you can embroider names tags yourself if you have the skill. If neither of these options is to your liking, you can often find cheap name tags online. A soldier's "dog tag" is one of the oldest name tags used. These are worn closer to the body than even clothing tags and are used to ID something even more valuable than clothing.
